Serve as a General Council Steward
The 43rd General Council will meet in Oshawa, ON, at University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), July 21–27, 2018. Many volunteers serve in a variety of positions during this event, including a hard-working group known as stewards. Stewards fill key roles daily to support the smooth flow of the work of the General Council.
General Council 43 plans to rely on technology to provide what has, for many years, been delivered in a paper format. Information updates will be provided in “real time.” Commissioners will use laptops and tablets to access this information. Stewards will be an important part of this new way of communicating and doing business.
Stewards are basically “on duty” all day and into the evening. They need to be able to move easily while carrying things, be on, and work a long period of time.
Specific skills include:
- being comfortable with emerging technology
- an ability to assist others to troubleshoot tech problems
- taking notes electronically
- bookstore or similar retail experience
Ideally stewards will be available to assist with set-up the morning of Saturday, July 21, 2018, and for takedown the morning of Saturday, July 28, 2018. Orientation for stewards will be held on Saturday, July 21, at 11 a.m.
Stewards are responsible for their own accommodation and transportation to and from the General Council. Meals and parking will be provided by the General Council. You may choose to book accommodation in the UOIT residences at the General Council daily rate of $65 plus taxes.
The role of the steward is a hands-on way of experiencing General Council at work and worship. Thank you for giving this invitation your consideration.
To apply, complete the online application form by February 19, 2018. Those who are selected as a steward will be forwarded additional information by March 12, 2018.
